I'm Jewish... and there's been a lot of upheavel in the community about male circumcision. The practice that the mohelim (ritual circumciser) uses is the same technique that a doctor in a hospital uses, and they have to undergo a training program to be licensed to perform a bris. They use varying sizes in clamps to restrict any blood flow to the skin they're cutting, and sometimes give the baby sugar water or wine for a sedative effect. When not being performed on a newborn (8 days old), lidocaine is used.

Alternatively, performed by ultra-Orthodox Jews is heavily criticized because they follow the Talmud. The mohel uses metzitzah b'peh, or oral suction. He places his mouth directly on the wound to draw away blood, and in NYC where there's a large population of ultra Orthodox Jews, there's been 8 babies that contracted herpes this way and one of them died.

In regards to whether or not male circumcision can even compare to female? No. Not in 100 years. Because to have sex a male doesn't have to be cut open. They can still have pleasure in sex without their foreskin.
