Fatal Varicose Vein Bleed
Woman bled to death after an ulcer formed over a varicose vein and ruptured it. Site of both rupture and dissection of the site showing the rupture site a bit more clearly are shown.    |

An 82-year-old female that was found dead in her house, in a sitting down position with large quantities of blood visible on the floor throughout the house. No cardiopulmonary resuscitation efforts took place. Because the circumstances raised suspicions, the Portuguese Criminal Police investigated the scene. One hour prior to her death, the victim unsuccessfully tried to call a friend. |

This happens a lot more than I am comfortable with, there were a few other cases to choose from. This actually wasn't my first pick, I was looking for one where there were signs of panic at the scene of death but couldn't find it so I went with the most severe.

Not always the case unfortunately, apparently these things can bleed like hell even in healthy people which is the reason they get surgically removed. My dad actually had a bunch removed from the same area, very glad he did after seeing these deaths.
