This patient has what is called a "Port Wine Stain Birthmark." Many usually go awry like this and form enormous tumors. Also, surgery can get pretty complication because these tumors are very vascular, and for this reason, often times they are left untreated -- which causes them to grow even more enormous and deform the sufferer severely.

Port Wine Stains are kind of common birthmarks. But it's kind of common for them to get out of hand as in the case of this patient. Some Port Wine Stain Birthmarks, however, NEVER get out of hand.
