Good post! I agree with Oswald. These aren't faked. We've come along way from WWI to the skills those plastic surgeons do now with burns, etc.

the first reconstructive surgery to be performed in the uk during ww1, the surgeon is Harold gillies, I drew all of these for my final project at uni, some of the after pictures are really amazing
