Isabelle Dinoire 38 was the first person in the world to receive a partial face transplant . Its history dates back to the spring of 2005 when one of his dogs tore both lips and part of the nose. His wound was so severe that prevented him from eating and talking. The intervention lasted about five hours the skin, subcutaneous tissues , small facial muscles and arteries and veins from a donor who was brain dead were used. As in all Isabelle transplants should take some immunosuppressive drugs to prevent his body from rejecting the grafted face.

A medical team of Xijing Hospital ( China) military hospital successfully transplanted a part of the face to Li Guoxing 30 years of age, whose face was disfigured by a black bear attack in 2004. The operation lasted 14 hours and her face two- thirds of Li were replaced. Unfortunately Guoxing died two years later and think that his death may be due to his refusal to take medication to help your immune system to prevent rejection of the donor tissue .

Pascal Coler 27 years suffered from neurofibromatosis , a genetic disorder of the nervous system characterized by the presence of numerous tumors and abnormal development of muscles, bones and viscera. Thanks to a team of doctors of Henri Mondor Hospital , Créteil, he received was the third face transplant in the world and the second in France. Pascal suffered such a deformity on his face that he could not find work or go out without being the center of attention .

Connie was shot with a shotgun by her husband in an assassination attempt in September 2004. He survived the attack and her husband was sentenced to seven years in prison for attempted aggravated murder . Culp forgave her husband and said she would wait when you leave prison. The bullet went through the nose, part of the jaw , lips and eyelids. He had to undergo 20 surgeries before the final transplant, which took place on December 10, 2008 at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. 80 % of the face including the nose , lower eyelids , skin, muscles , arteries, bone structures , veins and nerves transplanted . The operation lasted 22 hours, the donor was a woman who had recently died.


James Maki had an accident in June 2005 in the Boston metro falling on the electrified railway. In the accident he lost his nose , upper lip , cheeks and palate as well as the muscles and nerves in your face. For four years I had to live with a disfigured face and rejection of people. But in 2009 after a 17-hour operation at the hospital in Boston will be a new face using transplanted from a donor who had died when he made a heart transplant.


Rafael was involved in Sevilla by a team of 25 people in the second transplant facial tissue made that was made in Spain and the world's ninth . The surgery lasted for thirty hours and involved directly and indirectly over one hundred fifteen doctors and health hospital services. This transplant was the only therapeutic solution to neurofibromatosis type one Rafael suffered since birth , his new facial appearance is very similar to that before the transplant and has been experiencing progressively throughout his life. Óscar shot himself in the face by accident and injury was so severe that he could not breathe through the nose and mouth and much complicated functions swallowing and speaking. It was the third patient to receive a face transplant in Spain and the first full face transplant in world . The operation involved a team of 30 people for 24 hours.


Dallas Wiens in 2008 suffered a serious accident that nearly cost him his life when he touched a live wire that disfigured his face while fixing a window in a church. Since then operations to save his life and improve his appearance occurred tirelessly until March 2011 became the first full face transplant in the United States, a team of 30 people was necessary for a successful operation that lasted 15 hours.


Charla Nash was badly injured in 2009 by her neighbor's pet, a chimpanzee named Travis who pounced on the woman and tore the face, causing the loss of the lips, nose, eyes and hands. Doctors who treated Nash at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston felt it was a " miracle" she survived the attack, claiming that her transplant , held in May in an operation that lasted twenty hours, has been a success . In the operation she was also going to have her two hands transplanted, but the doctors had to do it at a later time due to complications when Nash developed pneumonia. She says she expects to undergo another double transplant someday. Her family filed a lawsuit against the owner of the chimp, Sandra Herold , for $ 50 million.


Ugur Acar, 19-years -old, became the first Turk to receive a face transplant. When he was just 40 days old a fire in his home left him with a burned face that was deformed for life. The transplant was performed at Akdeniz University Hospital. The transplanted face belonged to a donor for 45 years so that new face did not make him look his actual age.


American surgeons detailed what they called the transplant world's most comprehensive face, which allowed a man of 37 years to get rid of a mask 15 years after an accident with a weapon that nearly killed him. Richard was shot in the face in 1997 and lost his nose, lips and most of the mobility of his mouth. Since then , the man had to undergo multiple surgeries to save his life and have his face reconstructive, but no one could fix enough for him to feel that he could return to social life. The man wore a prosthetic nose and even wore a mask when entering the hospital for transplant. In March 2012 following an operation that lasted 36 hours, Doctors Medical Center of the University of Maryland gave him a new face, from an anonymous donor whose organs saved the lives of five other patients the same day. Six days after surgery, the man could already move his tongue and open and close his eyes , and is recovering much faster than doctors expected. To ensure Norris retain maximum function of his facial expressions and movements, doctors placed a new language box to talk, eat and chew, properly aligned teeth and connected their nerves to allow laugh. About 100 physicians, scientists and other medical staff of the university, from plastic surgeons to craniofacial specialists participated in the operation.
