Face Transplant After Suicide Attempt
It took sixteen hours to remove the organ donor's face and another 15 hours were needed to apply the facial transplant procedure for Katie Stubblefield and give her a new face. Now 25-year-old Katie, who tried to commit suicide at the age of 18 by shooting herself in the face with a gun, was subjected to a facial transplant. She underwent 22 operations before she was the youngest person to undergo a facial transplant in the USA at the age of 21 (2017). She is the 40th. person in the world who received a facial transplant. She shot herself in the face in March 2014, after her parents lost their job and her boyfriend left her for another girl. Many doctors said she would not survive. But Katie survived even though her face was severely deformed. Katie talks very openly about the operation and thanks to a quick recovery she is able to breathe, chew and swallow without help. She hopes that her story will inspire others not to try to take their own lives. If someone could ever solve the face-swelling problem, the results would be more aesthetically positive for he patient; then again, she wasn't expecting to live, so...

If I tried to kill myself and ended up looking like that I'd make sure to get it right the second time around. Kudos to these people for being so strong.

Her parents lost their job and she shoots herself putting unbearable financial hardship on her parents.  |

Iirc she also lost her vision and messed up her pituitary gland causing all sorts of additional problems.
