Poor nutrition, I guess. Sad situation.
Has nothing to do with nutrition. The egg didn't split completely like it should have. It's a freak thing happens naturally.

I often wonder what children with severe malformations would look like as adults with their parasitic twin, if they ever survived into adulthood..

Have to admit, I'd be morbidly inclined to see what would happen in that situation. Was that head attached to anything internally? Lungs? Stomach? Or was it just a head (and a bit of an arm) just semi-attached?

I guess it's best it's removed. Could you imagine the confusion trying to date that girl, you think you're banging the right hole, only to discover you're just getting a blowjob?

They had to work fast because you can see the incomplete twin is starting to decompose. Note the poor color and the ulcerations on the head.

Malnutrition is not what causes this. It's believed to be genetic, linked to a deficiency of Sonic Hedgehog protein.
