Exploding Rifle Mangles Hand
The shooter, who wants to remain anonymous, is from Canada. He says he was shooting a Savage recommended "smokeless powder" charge and saboted bullet. He also uploaded photos of his destroyed Savage 10ML II. His rifle had been stocked with one of the "plastic" composite stocks - and it literally blew away the forearm section of the stock just forward of the receiver. He had been holding the rifle with his left hand gripping the forearm, and the explosion mangled his hand.

Re: Exploding Rifle Mangles Hand
Good post ! Thats the first time ive ever seen pics of a gun barrel explodin ! Im EX-forces and id not heard anything about a modern barrel exploding unless it hade been blocked with somethin.........and even then it was the "Working-parts" that exploded ! Thinkin about it ,id say there was more to it than were being told! Cos where the barrel exploded is a Strange place for it to happen ,without the barrel being Blocked ! |

Re: Exploding Rifle Mangles Hand
I agree that is not a place where a defect would be found, except for possibly a squib load left the barrel plugged and the guy did not really notice, then fired a full house load causing the rupture. I actually had to investigate a gun related death, that was very close looking as far as the barrel goes. This guy had fired and underpowered round, and he had the brilliant idea |

Re: Exploding Rifle Mangles Hand
That rifle is a muzzle loader that uses smokeless powder, more than likely he made a mistake and went with too fast of a powder .
