Re: Ems Guy Helps Woman Delivering a Baby on the Front Path of a House
I was told a story once about a girl giving birth in the middle of her GCSE exam... Apparently she didn't want to leave the exam so she just ignored it (not sure if she knew she was pregnant/in labour) and when she stood up after the exam she caught it as it was sliding down her trouser leg!!!! Good god I hope it wasn't a real story. |

Re: Ems Guy Helps Woman Delivering a Baby on the Front Path of a House
I've delivered three in my career...what an experience. One was during training for advanced paramedic certification that was in a training hospital (LA County USC) and I assisted in the delivery so I would understand what it's supposed to be like. The other two were in cars. Both times the damn fire paramedics were significantly delayed so I ended up delivered both kids by myself. It sounds really cool, but the reality is a lot more messy...not sure how they cleaned the car afterwords (I'm so anal that of course I'd worry about that aspect...). The whole thing, as many of you know, kinda takes care of itself...unless there are complications. Thank God in both my deliveries there were no complications or issues...they just slid down th chute. In fact one set of parents even named their little guy after me as a tribute...that was totally cool. See, my partner always said they did that only because they didn't know me. That has to be one of my happiest memories from my thirty years. Something so simple as the birth of a healthy child and being there to just help and keep the young mom (and dad) calm was quite an experience with a rare completely happy resolution. Lots of folks here on DR hate the police and are constantly berating me for standing up for my profession, but they never see what police really do...and do quietly and constantly everyday in every city throughout America. Crime fighting, shootouts, arrests, and fighting are only a very small portion of what police really do. The haters never see the death notifications, medical assistance calls, hurt children calls, lost children, elderly folks who just want to talk with someone calls, the lost folks from out of town, the homeless folks and children, and all the other mundane everyday work and good that police officers do quietly every day. No one ever goes to the trouble to research or look deeper into what the police actually do. You watch videos of action, mistakes, misconduct, and criminal acts, and everyone thinks that the whole picture, but it's not...cops won't usually publicize their kindness or charity works...it would look unseemly to do something good and then openly talk about it. But the police haters are going to continue to hate in spite of what I say or write here on DR.

Re: Ems Guy Helps Woman Delivering a Baby on the Front Path of a House
My uncle had to deliver one while he was a paramedic, this woman was mentally ill, refused to believe she was having a baby, threatened him with a lawsuit if he tried to get her pants off, then STILL refused to believe she'd had a baby even after she delivered!

As ghetto as it is to have a baby in a car...I still miss that kind of call. No controversy, no bad intentions, no negatives, just helping someone who needs help...simple. That's why a lot of guys got into law enforcement.
