Elderly Man Immolates Himself During Eviction Drive

A routine land possession enforcement turned into a horrific tragedy when 60-year-old R.T. set himself on fire. The incident has triggered a wave of local outrage, culminating in violent clashes and a massive security deployment to maintain order.

The confrontation stems from a long-standing property feud between him and another local resident, M.Y.

According to family members, T's family had previously secured 2 favorable court verdicts regarding the ownership of the land.

However, a recent judicial order overturned those positions, ruling instead in favor of M.Y.

On Tuesday afternoon, an administrative team led by local police and the Circle Officer arrived to enforce the latest court order and hand possession over to M.Y.

Eyewitnesses reported that his family wept and begged officials for a simple one-week grace period to pack up their belongings and find alternative storage, stating they had nowhere else to take their property.

When administrative staff pushed forward with the eviction despite their pleas, a desperate R.T doused himself in kerosene and ignited the flames.

An angry mob turned on the enforcement team, launching a brutal retaliatory assault on the Circle Officer and other accompanying administrative workers.

Due to the severe nature of R.T's burns, he was transferred to the Benipatti Sub-Divisional Hospital and subsequently referred to the Madhubani Sadar Hospital. Doctors state his condition remains highly critical as they monitor him closely.

While police records characterize the incident as a self-immolation, T’s daughters have leveled serious accusations against the opposing faction. They allege that influential locals forcefully breached their home and set their father on fire.
