Dustin Lafortune - Tortured for Months
This story is just emerging now. Apparently Dustin Lafortune, the guy in the pictures below was allegedly tortured by his roommate for an extended period of time, and was dropped off at a Regina hospital in mid April. Before this ordeal he was a strong, 245 pound man and when he was admitted to the hospital he wighed about 90 lbs. He is only now regaining his ability to speak and will probably take a good 2 years to fully recover, and has sustained some brain damage. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's the story: Grisly details emerge of man's apparent torture WINNIPEG -- Family members of a Winnipeg man recovering from horrific injuries say the victim’s former Calgary roommate assaulted him, likely while holding him captive. While Dustin LaFortune, 26, slowly recovers at a Regina hospital, his older brother told the Winnipeg Sun on Saturday of his suspicions — and confirmed that Dustin has made the same allegation to that city’s police service. In an e-mail from the Vancouver area, Ryan LaFortune said Dustin — who has been treated at the hospital for a month — gave the name of his alleged male assailant to Regina police investigators on Friday. It was the first time he had really been able to speak to police, after being mysteriously dropped off at the hospital in mid-April. Dustin LaFortune had lost a stunning amount of weight and was suffering from injuries ranging from severe stab wounds, bruises and apparent burns, to parts of his lips and tongue being cut off. “The how is horrific in all manners, and the why is beyond me,” Ryan LaFortune said of the attack, which some family members suspect had been done as a kind of torture during possibly several months following Dustin’s move to Calgary from Winnipeg two years ago. “I do suspect it was his former roommate ... who did this.” The family fears Dustin LaFortune sustained brain damage during the assaults, while his weight had dropped to less than 90 pounds from more than 200 after he moved to Calgary in 2008 to work for a moving company. “It’s just so frustrating and sad,” Shileen LaFortune said of the injuries suffered by her brother-in-law, after seeing him at the hospital. “You don’t expect this to happen to a family member.” Regina police have confirmed only that they’re investigating the case as an aggravated assault. “We are not confirming anyone’s identity and are not discussing the injuries,” said Staff Sgt. Gord Pilon. “There is nothing else to release at this time.” Ryan says police have warrants for the arrest of the roommate. Though Dustin LaFortune testified years ago in a Winnipeg murder trial with ties to the Hells Angels, his family said he’s never been involved with gangs and that the case has no connection to his injuries. · · · · |
