Rather have a great big gash then get ejected or end up with the steering column in my chest. Do those padded seat belt covers do anything to help? |

That's what my chest and belly looked like after I got hit by a semi head-on. Broke my collar bone, a bunch of rib, cracked my sternum and nearly ruptured my bladder. Had I not had an airbag, the seat belt would have killed me. However, had I not been wearing a seatbelt, I'd have been in pieces on the interstate and the front end of a truck.

man, just think. If a seatbelt did that, what would the accident have done without the seatbelt? That guy would just have become minced meat

Also depending on the angle of impact, relatively lowspeed (30-40mph) collisions seat-belts can cause decapitation and vertibrae injuries.
