Re: Double Jointed Knees
That guy was likely born with a condition called Ehlers Danlos....probably Type 3 (there are 6 Types)..... Type 3 is Hyper- mobility of the joints & is the most common form. It can affect the person to varying degrees. This guy is pretty extreme....looks like 99% of his joints are affected. I'm about 1/2 way there, with only specific joints affected. I have this condition, as you are usually born with it. When my knees & hips started going out in my teens, I was diagnosed with it. I also have Type 3 which affects my ankles, knees, right elbow and fingers & thumbs on both hands. Ehlers Danlos means that your collagen in your body doesn't form right. A person with ED's collagen is much more thin, fluid & watery.....unlike regular people who's collagen is far thicker. A second common type of ED is the Classical Type, usually seen in freak shows. This is the type where freak show guys could stretch their skin over their eyes, or pulling the neck skin up over the face. Their skin is like rubber, velvety & can bruise or tear quite easily. My Type 3 meant that I had to be very careful even walking down a flight of stairs, or my knees would pop backward upon stepping down, or my ankles would go out. Even handing a loaded dinner plate to Grampa G meant using two hands or I could pop several fingers out of joint....& for me, its quite painful. For this reason I was & am still always wrapped in braces, daily.....injured or not. When you are younger, you can do those neat party tricks like that guy in the video....with minimal to no pain. As you get older (as I am now) those joints that popped every which way, become stiff, painful & arthritic with age. Truth be told, while it looks funny & neat....this guy is being very stupid. He will feel it when he gets old & farty like me. Also, I don't recall ever doing the dislocations to myself, on purpose. They were usually by accident. |
