A three-year-old girl presented with an open injury of the scalp involving the left parietal region, maximum length of 12 cm and including the periosteum. The child was bitten whilst playing near a donkey and presented to the hospital 11 h after the bite. She demonstrated no neurological deficit, had a Glas gow Coma Scale (GCS) of 15/15, and plain radiographs of the skull showed no fractures. The wound was debrided and covered with an occipital scalp flap. The donor area of the flap was skin grafted. The child received antibiotic prophylaxis with amoxicillin-clavulanic acid, 50 mg/kg orally, divided three times a day for one week, and analgesia was provided with paracetamol, 15 mg/kg orally four times a day. Although the child was immunised according to the World Health Organization (WHO) schedule, the patient received 10,000 IU of tetanus antitoxin because of the severity of the injury. The child was discharged 4 days after the injury. Follow up examination in the outpatient clinic after one week showed appropriate wound healing.

This happened in a rural area of Marocco so Hospitals are far away. Donkey's are used for labour and transport there. she's lucky it didn't get infected. Wonder how she looks nowadays though.

Suspect she was hitting it, or pestering it in some way, and it lost it's patience. Donkeys are usually pretty placid and docile, and can be very affectionate as well if they like their owners. Seen some in Mexico with hats cutout for their ears, and following their owners around like dogs, obviously having a happy life. Not so much fun if you get beaten every day. ![]() |
