I was always slightly jealous of people being able to post their injuries/stories in here and wondered if i ever would

Absolute bane of my life is trying to walk my Cane Corso at a time and place where we are not likely to bump in to the many "Professional Dog Walkers" who have sprung up since covid.
He was attacked as a puppy by a group of dogs and is very wary, hence our routine.
Long story short, 2 dogs off lead rushed us and my boy tried to get away.
I stood in between them, punched, kicked and screamed until the walker casually walked over, leashed them up and walked off.
For my trouble, i managed only to get a single bite to my index finger.
Walked home, washed it out, bandaged it up and went to docs the next day.
Prescribed co-amoxiclav and sent on my way.
Didnt think anything of it - owned dogs all my life, work with them as pups and adults in security/training etc, been bit many times and never had any issues.
Been to A&E for IV antibiotics, tetanus and referal to Royal Free Hosital for plastics and irrigation.
Unfortunately, the day i was referred was the day they went on a 2 day strike so there excuse for no contact as of today is the backlog theyre working through.

I've always loved and admired the NHS (coming from a family of medical professionals) but god damn the experience i had with this trip was

Arrived at A&E with my finger all plump, hot and painful. Assessed quite quickly through triage and to see the Doc. It was busy so two hours seemed a fair amount if time.
Once i met with the doc, there it went down hill.
She asked to look at my finger, asked me to move it around so she could see both puncture wounds.
At no point did she touch it as i told her it was really painful. She took a photo to show the consultant and sent me back out to waiting.
3 Hours later i was called in to have my bloods done. In my notes, it states they have to use a size down from usual with cannulars (suppose to have blue instead of pink). I mentioned it to the nurse who rolled her eyes and picked up the pink one anyway. Tyring to get blood from me is a nightmare so i told her that the only place you can get blood from me is in my forearm. She stuck me in both the back of my hands twice, in both wrists twice then once in my right arm before finally listening to me and getting it from my left arm (i conveniently have a mole just to the side of where its easiest to get blood from me)
Finally got my bloods done and sent back out to wait for my IV antibiotics.
2 Hours latr i was called in and sat down, wehere i had to wait another 45 minutes before someone came and attached the drip.
It took less than 15 minutes but had to wait 1h20 for them to come and remove the drip and give me my tetanus booster.
I was sent back out to the waiting area to wait to see the doc to dishcrage me.
Probably another 45 minutes went by before iwalked back in to the tretment area to find the doc had forgotten to discharge me.
Prescribed codeine for the pain, i was sent back to have the cannular removed.
Same nurse for bloods again, removed the cannular, popped a cotton ball on my arm and sent me on my way.
I walked out to the main waiting area and started to feel a little dizzy. Thats when my husband grabbed my arm and shouted for someone to come help.
The nurse had failed to put adequate pressure and ensure the blood has stopped flowing.
As i was wearing long loose sleeves, i didnt notice the blood starting to drip down my arm until hubby grabbed my arm and lifted it up, trying to pull my sleeve up to apply pressure.
The poor patients near me, the chairs, wall and floor all got a nice spray of deep red crimson before i passed out.
Woke up a while later on a hosiptal bed on an IV drip again with a banging headache.

So now i am still waiting for the appointment for the irrigation but i imagine instead of the one day in and out surgery to irrigate the tendon and quick recovery, i am now looking at a much longer recovery time as no one thought to xray my finger at the time.
It seems i have a broken and displaced distal phallanx along with infectious flexor tenosynovitis.

What started as a small finger pain is now causing medial nerve pain as well so with my throbbing finger, i am getting those nice little "Oh my fucking god" pains you get when you hit your funny bone, in my other fingers, palm, forearm and elbow.

And my smart ass GP said look on the bright side - if i hadnt been changing the dressing, draining the pus and putting it in an antiseptic bath twice a day, it would have been a lot worse as the wound could have healed up, trapping the exudate inside.

I am glad to say that i am no longer envious of posters in this forum!!!

what's with the nurse?! you should listen to your patients when they give you information like that...

ive had papercuts worse....but that infection looks like it hurt pretty good.

you dont carry a stick or golf club with you??? might wanna start.
