When abscess occurs in the scrotal sac or in tunica, scrotum looks red and swollen. Patient complains of severe pain in that region and it may be accompanied by fever. Filariasis should also be ruled out especially in endemic region.

Prior to drainage, aspiration of fluid should be carried out by 16 or 18 G needle and after confirmation only I & D should be carried out. If abscess lies in tunica vaginalis, condition of testes should be assessed and the cavity should be cleaned and dressed.

Seeing a few words here made me curious, I had a feeling as to what type of condition Filariasis would be as it reminded me of myiasis (Maggots).
So my good pal google and his pal wiki came to my rescue -

Filariasis (or philariasis) is a parasitic disease that is caused by thread-like roundworms belonging to the Filarioidea type. These are spread by blood-feeding black flies and mosquitoes.

This man has Filariasis of the scrotum and leg.



Reminiscent of elephantiasis in my opinion..
