Died from an Acute Subdural Hematoma

Subdural haemorrhage (SDH), is a type of hematoma, usually associated with traumatic brain injury.

Blood gathers between the dura mater, and the brain. Usually resulting from tears in bridging veins which cross the subdural space, subdural hemorrhages may cause an increase in intracranial pressure (ICP), which can cause compression of and damage to delicate brain tissue.

Subdural hematomas are often life-threatening when acute.

There's nothing 'cute' about that hematoma!

Re: Died from an Acute Subdural Hematoma

Surprised that brain looks that good in the last pic...
(Can see how it split the hemispheres a good bit. Especially towards the base.)

That's the biggest brain bleed/clot I've seen.

Whatever caused that and the duration of that, that the person was awake/aware of this? I'm sure it had to hurt like hell..
(They say the brain itself cannot feel pain... well that sure was a LOT of pressure in there... the hell with an Excedrin headache...)

Re: Died from an Acute Subdural Hematoma

My father died from this and his two brothers survived the same thing. The younger brother only survived because he had suffered meningitis as a child and back in the 50's they used to drill holes in the base of the skull to release the pressure, it was these holes that saved his life.

That's huge, poor person

Hope they didn't suffer long. Cranial bleed effects are very very scary.

Re: Died from an Acute Subdural Hematoma

Sharon he didn't suffer for long, but oh boy did that person suffer
Your brain doesn't feel pain, but your fucking meninges do feel pain (not all of them, but the dura mater does for sure; A LOT OF IT!). Since blood is highly conductive, it sets off lots of free nerve endings(pain receptors) in the meninges when it spills into the cerebral spinal fluid(CSF) that bathes the brain! Patients with hematomas of the subdural variety claim they have ''THE WORST HEADACHE OF MY LIFE!'' They're probably right.
Not only that, but if it's not treated immediately... it'll be their worst headache of their life, and their last.

meninges are the three layers of tissue that separate the brain from the bone. Your brain is floating within CSF inside your bony cranium, and the three layers of the meninges are: 1.) Dura mater 2.) Arachnoid mater 3.) Pia mater
Pia mater is closest to the brain and dura mater is closest to the bone.

so yeah poor person; pain for them during their last moments of life was... on a scale from 1 to 10... an 11

That's huge, poor person

Hope they didn't suffer long. Cranial bleed effects are very very scary.
