These are excellent and most of them are properly identified. The two babies labeled as having anencephaly actually have a similar condition called exancephaly... the difference is that in anencephaly there is no covering over what's left of the brain. The baby in picture 5 is NOT a drug baby. It is probably a victim of amniotic band syndrome. The happens when the amniotic sac partially ruptures and pieces of it get stuck to or wrapped around the baby. If the baby swallows some, it can pull their whole face into horrible shapes and cause a misshapen head. Drug babies aren't horrific... they're just miserable and possibly brain-damaged, but other than being underweight they usually look normal. Good post! |
