Decubitus Ulcer on An Elderly Woman's Buttocks
My mom is a doctor at a nursing home, doing some Hospice work, etc. She was called by one of the social workers/workers who works for another sub-division healthcare who texted her this picture. This woman was a very non-compliant patient who refused to be turned and got a very bad pressure. I suppose "very bad" is putting it mildly. This is her butt, and the sutured ring is her anus. All the green is necrotic tissue, and she's since died which my mom knew was was going to happen. She was rather pissed off because this was completely avoidable if the patient would've taken a little bit better care of herself - and no, there was no dementia or Alzheimer's.  · |

If they refuse, turn them anyway, that really sucks to see this kind of condition let out of hand like that  Maybe she wanted to commit suicide and didn't find any other way than killing herself by letting bedsores turn into a fatal stage?  Anyways, seeing that stuff makes me very nervous, even a bit afraid to think that would this kind of shit really happen to me at old age, if I make it this far   |

Can't "just turn them anyway", that's battery. Everyone has the right to refuse care. That gal clearly had some undiagnosed mental health issues despite no dx of dementia. Gives me chills-I am caring for a miserable old coot who has refused to get in bed for weeks-she is starting to breakdown. Thanks for showing me her future.We have tried it ALL. She does have some dementia. Psych is involved,the family,physical therapy. She says "I'm not like the rest of them, I'm not going to bed to die".

One of the local hospitals here got new beds like 2 years ago.. I got to experience one when I had my knee surgery in 2013. Just waking up from surgery doped out of my mind... And the bed starts moving underneath me all over the place..freaked out a bit.. "WTF WAS THAT? WHAT IS MOVING?!"  while the nurse was there.. She explained they had gotten new beds that move the patients to help prevent bed sores..They're on a programmed timer to move around the patient every 30-60 minutes or as desired. And then gloated that the new beds cost $10K each.. and most of the hospital now has them.. (BIG hospital)   |

Yeah, the nursing homes around here are super cheap. And a lot of the residents don't want to be moved. She was one of them. Was because this killed her.
