Cutaneous Porphyria/Erythematosus

1.The cutaneous, or erythropoietic, porphyrias primarily affect the skin, causing photosensitivity (photodermatitis), blisters, necrosis of the skin and gums, itching, and swelling, and increased hair growth on areas such as the forehead. Often there is no abdominal pain, distinguishing it from other porphyrias.

In some forms of porphyria, accumulated heme precursors excreted in the urine may cause various changes in color, after exposure to sunlight, to a dark reddish or dark brown color. Even a purple hue or red urine may be seen.

2.Lupus erythematosus is a connective tissue disease. Lupus is a chronic inflammatory disease that occurs when the body's immune system attacks its own tissues and organs (autoimmunity). Inflammation caused by lupus can affect many different body systems, including joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, heart, and lungs. Lupus occurs more frequently in women than in men, although the reasons for this are unknown. Four types of lupus exist — systemic lupus erythematosus, discoid lupus erythematosus, drug-induced lupus erythematosus and neonatal lupus. Of these, systemic lupus erythematosus is the most common and serious form of lupus.

Re: Cutaneous Porphyria/Erythematosus

At first, I just saw the hands and was like "Well that isn't too bad *scrolls down* OH GOD WHERE ID HIS NOSE GO D:?!"

Judging by my dog's expression, I did in fact make that exact face.

Re: Cutaneous Porphyria/Erythematosus

I'm sorry, i'm a picker by nature. If there is a pimple, black head, ear booger, eye booger...just shy of an actual booger/booger i'm going to attack it. I would literally pick myself to death here! I would pick until my skin bled! Blech! I can't stand this kind of stuff. Makes me want to pick something! Any volunteers?

I don't know if this type of porphyria is, but I know that some type of it is, cause of sun sensitivity and heme (which is richest in blood) can actually subdue the effects.
