Cutaneous and Injection Anthrax: Victims of Anthrax
Anthrax is a bacterial infection caused by Bacillus anthracis, usually acquired from infected animals or contaminated animal products. It is not contagious. Its four forms are cutaneous, ingestion, inhalation and injection anthrax; meningitis can complicate any form. Cutaneous anthrax accounts for more than 95% of human cases. It can begin with itchy bumps or blisters that develop into a painless black sore, often on the head, neck, forearms or hands. Untreated cutaneous anthrax can kill up to 20% of patients, while almost all treated patients survive. A historical series covering adults from 1940 through 2018 recorded 22% mortality among cutaneous cases. Injection anthrax has occurred after use of heroin contaminated with spores and can involve tissue deep beneath the skin or in muscle. During the 2001 US anthrax-letter attacks, there were 11 inhalation cases and 11 cutaneous cases; five people with inhalation anthrax died.

Re: Cutaneous and Injection Anthrax: Victims of Anthrax
Wonderful. 3rd pic from the top had compartment syndrome along with his anthrax infection, complication due to swelling from anthrax infection.. (They cut his arm open to compensate for swelling due to the infection. Probably removed the thick black scab that is a tell-tale sign of anthrax as well.) Last pic is of a toddler. I remember that from long ago. sad stuff. These are of cutaneous anthrax, inhalation anthrax they would all be dead.. (Inhalation is like 95% mortality..) |
