Craniopagus Twins
Craniopagus twins are conjoined twins who are fused at the skull. Joy and Joyce Magsino, identical twin sisters, were born in 2009 and joined at the head, a condition known as craniopagus twins. Despite initial pessimistic medical prognoses, they have made significant progress in their studies and are living inspiring lives. It is medically possible to separate them through surgery, but it has not been done due to two major obstacles: the extremely high risk of death and the financial burden. Although they dream of being separated to live independent lives, the surgery is extremely complex. The separation surgery is estimated to cost more than $70,000. As they are a Filipino family with limited financial resources, this amount is unattainable for them. Their mother has even had to work abroad. The twins continue to move forward with optimism, accumulating hundreds of thousands of followers on social media while waiting for a safe opportunity in the future. |
