Purse-string suture used prior to skin grafting
This is a common suture procedure used in round wounds before introducing the skin graft, since it can significantly reduce the surface area needing to be covered by the transplanted tissue. As many skin grafts are what’s known as auto-transplanted tissue (coming from another, healthy part of the body), techniques like this are important in minimizing the area of the secondary injury caused by even half-thickness tissue harvesting.
