Conjoined Twin

May 10th 2011:

A baby in Sichuan province, China, has been born with two heads.

Doctors are referring to the genetic anomly as cojoined twins who share a single body, but to the casual observer it's simply a two-headed baby.

The twins were born on Thursday at the Suining City Central Hospital in Sichuan and weighed in at 9 pounds (4 kilograms). They measured 20 inches (51 centimetres).

The parents, migrant farmers, did not learn of the abnormality until two days before the birth. They have since said they do not know how they will afford to care for their new arrival.

Two ultrasound scans failed to reveal the two heads during pregnancy because the technicians were viewing the single embryo in profile.

Doctors did consider separating the babies, who have separate spines and esophaguses but share major organs, but now say such a feat is almost impossible.

"It is hard to say how they will survive in the future but we will try the best to keep them alive at the moment," said Pu Youhua, a doctor with Suining Hospital.

The pair have now been moved to a hospital in nearby Chongqing for further examination.

Re: Conjoined Twin

sorry if this is a repost.

BEIJING – A hospital in southwestern China says conjoined twin girls with a single body and two heads have been born at its facility.
A staffer surnamed Wang at Suining City Central Hospital in Sichuan province says the girls were born Thursday.
Wang said Tuesday the parents, who are farmers, did not want to have the babies at first, fearing they could not afford to keep them alive. She said they transferred the twins to a hospital in the nearby metropolis of Chongqing to be examined by experts.
The local Huaxi Metropolis Daily reported the twins weighed 9 pounds (4 kilograms) and measured 20 inches (51 centimeters). They have two spines and two esophaguses and share other organs. Doctors were quoted as saying it would be nearly impossible to separate them.

Re: Conjoined Twin

I dont even think I could be able to go through a pregnancy if I knew before hand that the babies were conjoined in such a way as this. Very scary situation.

This is the only way I could post. I would remove the one on the right when facing the twins. She appears to be the parasitic one.
