Re: Child Punishment Afghan Style
hard to say what the kid did but don't be be too harsh on the uncle. if the kid stole something, what would happen if she stole as an adult? i'm sure the minimal punishment would be cutting the hand off. good chance it would be preceded by a lot of lashes that would leave gashes several skin layers deep. it seems cruel but I would imagine that punishment has to be strict on children because it they don't learn to do as they are told and if as an adult they don't do as they are expected, they may very well may lose their head over it. I've seen a couple of videos where the parents and even other relatives line up for their turn and they damn near whip the child to death. it took me a while to realize it could be for the childs own good. even teenagers in those shit holes are executed for minor infractions. they aren't in the united states where a teenager is sent to juvenile hall and as an adult gets a slap on the wrist and probation. if they get a slap on the wrist in those shit hole countries, its with a knife or machete.

Re: Child Punishment Afghan Style
This sort of treatment isn't part of our culture, I will agree with that, but it sure as shit still happens far too often here in `murica! I yahooed "mother put boys hand in scalding water for touching ipad" to find a story to reference (the one I wanted is third down). Hundreds of thousands of other hits as well. The emotional response is that the child should be permanently removed from the parents custody, but more often that is not what happens. On some occasions here the child doesn't even go to foster care for awhile... they leave the hospital with the person who caused their injury. |
