Careless Mother, Child Victim

Chronology: The incident started when the victim ( 3 or 4 years old) with his mother and friends went down from the first floor to the ground floor using an escalator in the mall with the victim standing on his mother's right and the victim's hand held by his mother when suddenly his mother saw the victim's foot already snagged by the escalator steps inbetween the escalator wall.

Then the victim's mother shouted for help, then witness 1 stopped the escalator by pressing the emergency power button, after which the victim was assisted by security and building technician to be evacuated.

At 14.00 pm, the victim was taken by security to RSUD Kota Bengkulu. As for the injuries he suffered bruises on the right foot, broken right leg bone, and a torn wound on the right foot.

Meanwhile, Megamall's Operational Director, Yohanes, said the Mall itself has implemented safety standards for Megamall's own visitors, so what happens in this case is simply the lack of supervision from their own parents.

"All must be more careful again because children the age of the victim should not be let alone but should be picked up because parents are unaware of events like this can happen," he said.

When I was 5 I saw another kid get his hand mangled in an escalator. Obviously the mother wasn't paying attention then either. I'm going on 31 and still have images of this as if it were yesterday.
