Car Accident - Dragged by Car
Patient presented to the ER after being involved in a car accident. OP Story: ''This patient was hit by a car and dragged with the arm under him causing the road to shear off the skin, tendons, and all tissues on the dorsal hand and wrist. Even the bones were shaved in half. After the surgery to clean the wounds, hand fractures and the wrist joint were pinned in proper alignment. Then the fingers were pinned and a groin flap was performed to get reliable durable coverage of the dorsal hand. After flap sectioning and healing, extensor tendons were reconstructed. Silicone rods were passed and sutured to the tendon stumps to help create a path for later reconstruction. We have the patient working on regaining finger motion and hopefully get him back to his normal day activities as soon as possible.'' Credit: Emergency Room 365 |
