Loads of Asian people still stand on the toilet edge to defecate instead of sitting down. Not a silly thought actually but that works better in an open toilet somewhere outside, not too mention the splatter

A squat straightens your lower colon and relaxes a key muscle, making it easier to poop without straining. Sitting on a normal toilet puts a kink in the colon, which can require more effort.

I can't seem to post pics anymore, but I had two examples of "Bathroom Safety" cartoon PSA signs posted in a restroom in some third world country or other. Description of one: 2 panes, left one shows a man standing on the seat and squatting down, frowning, and this image is red-X'd out. Right pane shows someone sitting as intended, smiling. Who knows where this came from (I grabbed it in the early aughts off probably rotten.com or stileproject.com). I imagine this practice came from millenia-plus of having to squat over holes in the ground? Still, head-scratcher as to how anyone could live with modern toilets and SOMEhow think the seat, or the whole toilet, was safe (or built) to stand on. Especially if one is....er... 'portly'.

Living in a country very similar to the one on this thread, I can say that I’ve seen shoe/flip flop prints on public toilets, many times. The citizens grow up using a squatty potty, hole in the ground, and squat over the hole in the ground and bombs away.

That just seems counterproductive… I mean if you’re elevated above the toilet the poo will have more GeForce and splash big when it hits the water and you get shit water all over your legs.
