I was thinking the same thing as I was getting these. No one in my family has any deformities, a few may be crazy, me included but that just makes life more interesting.

That first black and white one is actually a mid surgical procedure. The surgeon would take a tube or flap of skin and then attach it to some place on your body. It kept the blood supply going and the skin was able to be transplanted later.
