Re: Brown Recluse Spider Bite
I think they do as well, but do not feel the same way about snakes. Even if I see a "garter snake" I run for my life. I think it is all in the way you are brought up but some people think it is an inborn fear. Jim Morrison of the Doors use to ponder this question frequently, actually. |

Re: Brown Recluse Spider Bite
Holy shit.... I have hyper arachnophobia (yes that's a real term) which is basically the next step up from regular arachnophobia. Living in Florida we are incredibly familiar with these sons of bitches and they scare the fuck out of me. I scream like a little girl when I see one cross the floor or something, and I mean scream like a little scared girl... I will accept that they aren't aggressive (normally) and that most bites aren't actually that horrible. My doctor told me that most reactions that are bad are because the person had innate qualities that made the venom reaction worse. Of course you never know if you are one of those people until afterwards... I was changing the brake discs on my Altima and when I decompressed the piston and unhooked it I saw a brown recluse (it also could've been a hobo, difficult to tell the difference but its venomous all the same). The fucker was literally inside the fucking piston up against the back, I am not even going to begin to wonder how it got there. I put a tarp over the car and set three bug bombs off each a day apart, did I mention I hate these things? My friend Jen was bitten by a brown recluse her BF owned at one time and nothing serious happened to her, but after seeing that picture of that persons hand split open and sewn together, it just freaks me out even more.... as Rambo once put it "FUCK EM!" |

Re: Brown Recluse Spider Bite
The most telltale characteristic of brown recluse spiders is the presence of a dark, violin-shaped mark on it's upper back. Good picture of it attached. http://escholarship.org/uc/item/6sj701ns/vetter-2.jpeg |
