Brazilian Man Tears Out His Own Eye in Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, May 8, 2019
A Brazilian medical student tore out one of his eyes with his hands and badly damaged the other in downtown Ciudad del Este, Paraguay, on the morning of May 8, 2019. The incident occurred near the cathedral. Firefighters and police attended, and he was taken to the city's regional hospital. Toxicology tests conducted in Paraguay and Brazil were reported negative. A friend described the incident as a schizophrenia episode, but that explanation was not an established diagnosis. By June 2019, he had lost his sight: one eye was gone, and the optic nerve of the other was badly damaged. He was staying with relatives in São Paulo.

Ick! One time up at the hospital a family member of mine who was a nurse had a psych patient who dug both his eyes out with a spoon. I know it sounds like a bad horror movie trope, but he actually ended up dying from it.  Wonderfully cringe-inducing post, Simone!  |
