my Mom had a huge brain hemorrhage and had to have part of her skull cut out and kept in another part of her body until they could get rid of the infection on the brain!! It took 6 month's and she had to wear a special helmet cause they just sewed that part of her head back together without anything protecting her brain!!

My grandfather had something similar done to him about 40 years ago. Back then they just slapped a metal plate on there and stitched it back up. Airport security loves him.
