Brachymetatarsia: Short Fourth Toe Before and After Lengthening
Brachymetatarsia is a condition in which one or more metatarsals, the long bones at the front of the foot, are shorter than normal. The fourth metatarsal is most commonly affected, making the fourth toe appear short or raised above its neighbors. It usually results from early closure of the growth plate or incomplete bone development and is most often congenital. The condition is more common in females and usually becomes apparent by about age 10. Uneven weight distribution can cause pain or painful calluses. Surgical treatment lengthens the bone either in one stage using a graft or spacer, or gradually using an external fixator. Lengthening can bring the toe back into line, but complications include stiffness, infection and problems with bone healing. |

Re: Brachymetatarsia: Short Fourth Toe Before and After Lengthening
I don't know why, but, I thought of those tiny penises when I saw the 4th toe of everyones' feet. Interesting that every one in this group has the same toe smaller than the others. They look like shy little toes. It reminds me, I need to paint my toe nails, but, I don't have this condition. At least it can be repaired. |
