Both yes and no.. Usually when one modifies their body to the extreme, like cutting fingers of, it's to become more at peace with your own body. Some people don't feel "whole" with 10 finger, or you name it, so they chop something of or have something implanted or whatever to become satisfied with themselves. So my point is, the reason behind it may be dismay about your own body, and so you do it to become satisfied. Now, some people just do it for shits and giggles too though.. Now, when it comes to suspension, I wanna use an explenation that Allan Falkner used: "You're doing something that is physically possible, but that seems mentally impossible to do". The rushes, the feelings the everything about it is the reason for suspensions, usually. As for hepatitis, that someone mentioned here, these things are done in antiseptic enviroments, and usually at no time is one persons blood in contact with another persons open wounds. Sometimes however, lovers and such may do bloodplay and such during suspension, because usually they have exchanged most fluids that may carry disease already. So yeah.. Another bodymod rant over  |

Suspension is a process some people go through to reach a sort of 'enlightenment' like some religions. It's to do with the bloodflow and circulation and stuff. It has meaning, it's not self mutilation.

Believe it or not, RIPLEY'S on WABC (channel 7 in my area) had a sustained segment on some S&M weirdo who had hooks stuck in his back, had cables secured to the hooks and then was carried by helicopter over the HOLLYWOOD sign as a publicity stunt. The program gave time to telling all about his preparations to do this stunt safely (to be REALLY safe is not to do it at all !). I got sick of all this and turned the set off before he actually flew over the sign. I did NOT watch the show again. I was tired of its format and this pandering to this crap was the last straw ! |
