Black Toes

This patient presented with symptoms of plague that included gangrene of the right foot causing necrosis of the toes. In this case, the presence of systemically disseminated plague bacteria Y. pestis, i.e. septicemia, predisposed this patient to abnormal coagulation within the blood vessels of his toes.

Re: Black Toes

Watched a show just last night (Filthy Cities: London) that explained why plague was commonly called the Black Death. And believe it or not, their re-creation of plague buboes looked even worse than this poor person's foot.

Many of you are asking what happened and we hardly know ourselves. On Sunday Tripp pulled down a mat off the kitchen counter that had a cup of hot water on it, sterilizing his baby brothers pacifiers. It fell on his chest and stomach and, although very sad, it was comparable to a sun burn..they brought him to Children's and they treated him and everything was a okay. He developed a fever on Tuesday and, although Leslie didn't want to leave the hospital, the doctors told her it was nothing and he was fine...That it was probably just a virus..Early Wednesday morning he started wheezing, so Leslie and Larry rushed him back in the ER. His little body went into shock...it was a serious infection, that went undiagnosed. Our hearts our hurting more than I can possibly describe and life will never be the same. Please hug your babies a little tighter today..please continue pray for our dear Tripp. Thank you.
