Venezuela. Wednesday, Mario J.O.Á. was riding his motorcycle when it violently collided with the side structure of a 350-type cargo truck. As a result he lost his right lower leg.

Because a high-ranking state police officer, identified as Iván José Hernández Nieves, initially refused to use his official vehicle to transport the critically injured young man to the hospital the wortless cop was arrested and charged with omission of assistance.

Bystanders and local workers provided immediate first aid to stop the severe bleeding. Following intense community pressure, the officer eventually allowed the transport.
