Bartsocas-Papas Syndrome (Bartsocas Papas Syndrome): Lethal Popliteal Pterygium
Bartsocas-Papas syndrome is a rare inherited condition that causes severe abnormalities of the face, limbs and genitalia. Also called lethal-type popliteal pterygium syndrome, it can cause large webs of skin behind the knees, fused fingers or toes, facial and oral clefts, malformed eyelids and an underdeveloped nose. Other features include joint contractures, absent nails and missing scalp hair, eyebrows or eyelashes. The condition follows an autosomal recessive inheritance pattern and is associated with mutations in the RIPK4 gene. As of 2011, 24 published cases and families had been recorded. Most affected patients die before or shortly after birth, although survivors into childhood and adolescence have been reported. Bartsocas and Papas described the syndrome in 1972. |

As bad as it sounds, I hope they didn't survive. It's awful to say that but I can't imagine thehe suffering those poor babies would go through.

Cases like this are why mid-late term abortion access is important. Fetuses at that stage are anesthetized before the procedure. |
