This happens a lot, especially in the U.K. as avocado is very popular there. The seed is damn hard so when people try to cut an avocado, while holding it, the knife bounces of the seed through the avocado and inside people's hand  Yhey even call it the avocado hand. |

The person went for medical care while still holding the avocado for the purpose of demonstration of how the injury occurred or what an idiot he or she is? I have cut many of avocados and have done many stupid things, but this is not one of them! |

Pretty sure you're supposed to chop lightly across the pit so as to get the blade to grab it, twist, and lift. Not stab at it, dumbass.

The knife went through the avocado, the person's palm, and finger, so there's no way for them to release their grip on said fruit unless they yank the knife out.

A friend did that once, not with an avocado tho.  Tried to show off when his girlfriend couldn't open a jar. Got a knife and within a couple seconds it was through his palm.

I always use a large spoon or an ice cream scooper to get the seed out, is much safer. Rule of thumb, when checking for avacado ripeness is it's soft with a little squeeze. If it's not soft it isn't ready and needs to be left to ripen. They should be so soft and ripe that you can cut them open with a spread knife and pop the seed out with a spoon.
