I saw a you tube video about a girl who had sarcoma and they took off certain sections of the tumor and the reversed lower leg was reattached to the thigh to be fitted with a prothetic leg similar to this.

They remove the lower limb and turn it backwards so that the ankle joint and foot can function as a knee, making prosthesis fitting less complicated and walking easier for the patient.

MFC916 is correct. The ankle works better as a new knee than a prosthesis ever will, but they have to reverse the direction of the foot so the ankle bends in the right direction to function as the knee. A lower leg prosthesis is usually placed over the foot.
