Anorexia Nervosa and Eating Disorder Pics: Severe Emaciation
Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder involving a significant, persistent reduction in food intake that leads to extremely low body weight. It includes an intense fear of gaining weight, a relentless pursuit of thinness and a distorted body image. Many people with the disorder see themselves as overweight even when severely underweight. The estimated lifetime prevalence among US adults is 0.6%, including 0.9% of women and 0.3% of men. The median age of onset is 18. A ****-analysis of 36 studies found a weighted mortality rate of 5.1 deaths per 1,000 person-years among people with anorexia nervosa. About one in five of those deaths was by suicide. |

That's what's so weird about this disorder. The people who have it think they look perfectly normal. In fact, some of them look in the mirror and still see "fat" that needs to be lost. It's amazing what the mind can make our realities become.
