Angiogram Showing Brain Death
Digital angiogram (X-ray) of the skull (side view) of a young patient who suffered a road accident and is in the process of brain death. A catheter (white tube) has been inserted into the left cerebral artery (at centre) and a dye is being injected in the posterior fossa (cerebellum, upper centre) for 60 seconds at the rate of one image every 2 seconds. This technique applies to four arterial intracerebral axes. The lack of any dye being seen (intracerebral opacification) confirms brain death · |

Re: Angiogram Showing Brain Death
I've unfortunately seen my share of brain dead people. This diagnostic tool is not used any more (at least in the USA). Here are the criteria. 1. Dolls eyes (eyes don't fixate on an object with you move the head around) 2. Failed cold calorics (your eyes will move to look at the ear that you squirt cold water into). its a brain stem function. 3. No respiratory effect off a ventilator 4. sometimes an electroencephalogram is obtained (EEG) Just saw someone declared brain dead a few months ago |
