Amniotic Compression Syndrome
Amniotic compression syndrome, also known as amniotic band syndrome (ABS), is a rare condition in which strands of the amniotic sac (the inner membrane surrounding the fetus) separate and entangle parts of the developing fetus. These fibrous bands can constrict the fetus's limbs, digits, or other body parts, leading to deformities, amputations, or other complications. The severity of the syndrome varies depending on the location and tightness of the bands. The exact cause of the syndrome is not well understood, but it is believed to be related to early rupture of the amniotic sac.
