Re: Acne Not Herpes

Ouch, they look painful. Quite often acne around the jawline/chin are a hormonal symtom. Have you been checked for PCOS? Other symtoms are polycystic ovaries, irregular or lack of menstruation, weight gain that's hard to get rid of and especially concentrated around the waist area, unusual hair growth. I get horrible acne around the jawline, gain weight around the waist and my ovaries look rad on an ultrasound, basically I don't ovulate. I'm not overweight but could easily become.

Re: Acne Not Herpes

Plus I get extremely greasy skin in the face which for me is the worst symtom, I feel gross. Going back to the OB/GYN in february to measure my testosterone levels after having been off contreception for 3 months. Insulin resistance is another symtom.

The only thing that I ever found was 100% effective was Brandy.

After a few snorts, I couldn't care less about a skin condition.

(Washcloth + Soap + Warm Water) X 3 per day = clear skin

Re: Acne Not Herpes

I've battled cystic acne for over 30 years. Being a "middle aged female" now on hormone replacement as well. None of the go to treatments from my early years seem to work anymore. I have switched to over the counter beta-hydroxy acid astringent (CVS), as well as a 50/50 mix of alpha-hydroxy acid cream and Retinol cream at night. I apply a moisturizer with Salicylic Acid and SPF 15 in the morning. Wash with a mild cleanser morning and evening. The two acids help exfoliate and shrink the pores while the Retinol slows the oil production of the sebaceous glands. It has helped greatly.

good combo. topical retinol tends to help a lot of people out and if all else fails the oral version almost always kicks ass with a vengeance.

also (and this really only applies to women, especially with acne around the chin) a medication called spironolactone works fantastic. I've seen a lot of women have great success with it. it came about as a hypertension medication but didnt do such a great job but they noticed that women with acne had resolution while using it. the antiandrogen effects are what make it useful for this.
