Due to the large amount of heat being radiated from the exposed bowel, you are at high risk of hypothermia. You can expect a large amount of fluid loss and you run the risk of the bowel drying out. Once the body cavity has been opened, the body becomes susceptible to infection and peritonitis (painful inflammation of the abdomen). If your intestine is lacerated the risk of sepsis skyrockets. If circulation is cut off, then infarction (cell death) of the bowel may occur.
