A 63 Years Old Woman Gave Birth...
A 63-year-old Dutch woman has given birth to a daughter. It’s the first time in the Netherlands that a woman has delivered a baby at such an age. Mother and baby are doing well, say the woman’s family. The baby, named Meagan, was conceived abroad by egg cell donation. She was born by caesarean section on Monday morning at a hospital in the town of Harlingen, in the northern province of Friesland. The mother says she can understand why the news of her pregnancy caused consternation. However, her desire to have a child was so intense she was “prepared to accept the consequences”, she said in a statement released through her family. “I don’t know how long I’ll live, but I hope my daughter and I will be able to enjoy each other’s company for a long time,” the woman said. She added that she hoped her daughter would be left to grow up in peace. |

The IVF is forbidden in Holland over an age of 45, so she went to Italy to get it done.

Re: A 63 Years Old Woman Gave Birth...
I think it's very selfish of the mother to do that - for one, the risk of the baby developing Down's Syndrome (and other conditions I'm sure) greatly increases the older the mother gets after age 35, and also that child will likely not be able to enjoy a normal childhood because of issues such as the mother not being able to be active enough to keep up with the child, which robs him/her of the fun and activities they would normally enjoy with a young(er) parent. The child will also probably end up having to take care of the mother at a young age, and may lose her before they grow up and have the mom see them reach such milestones in life like graduating, getting married, having a child of their own, etc... That isn't fair to make a child go through that just because you decide you want a baby at the age you should be retired and enjoying grand children. The fact that the procedure was forbidden after age 45 and had to be done in another country only reinforces all of that |
