I am possibly very misinformed but don't you get some sort of anesthesia when they need to perform one? Or is it simply not enough to hide the pain at all?

The procedure itself wasn't too bad. Felt like a mild sunburn. It was afterwards, when the anesthesia wore off, that the pain kicked in.
