Mexican ladies are making like pinatas this week. I've seen more hangings in Mexico in the last two weeks than I have in the last 2 months.

This time it was a 41 year old Zumba instructor (and a very goddam fit one I might add) who choked out from a tree on her back patio.

Her husband and daughter went to a party, but she said she didn't feel well and stayed home. Then she proceeded to drink several glasses of wine before stringing herself up for one last dance.

No motive was given, but there was some sort of fistfight between the husband and the woman's brother after her body was discovered, so I expect hubby had been playing the field or gambling the kid's college fund or something. The family was well-off, so poverty was not considered a motive for the suicide.

With as many hangings as are pictured right in the damned newspapers down in Mexico, it continues to baffle me every time I see a swinger hanging there with wet shorts. I mean, they have to know how they're going to end up. Unlike many naive Americans who hang themselves, any Mexican who reads the paper sees a dozen suicide corpses every season. But instead of using the toilet, what does this one do? Guzzles half a liter of wine and then strangles herself, knowing full-well that she's gonna be plastered all over the rojas papers with her tongue hanging out and pissing herself like some drunk hobo in the alley.

Oh well. Makes for a more amusing picture on our end anyway.

I can't help but disagree.

Look at the countless forums you can find online for discussion about suicide. The two most frequent questions I see asked by people (who claim to be) seeking information towards the eventual end of suicide are:

1. "What is the least painful way?"

and 2. "What is the least messy way?"

It's clearly an issue with a significant number of prospective suicides. They know their family are going to find them. Unless they're spiteful (and most dont seem to be) they sure as hell don't want to make the experience of their family member/friend finding their body even more horrifying and traumatic by having it be an atrocious mess.

I could buy that some simply don't think about that factor in the final moments (though I remain incredulous in regard to Mexico where suicides are printed uncensored in the evening paper), but not that they don't care if they do know about it.

I suppose I just remain surprised, after seeing thousands and thousands of these, that so many of them still let it happen. So maybe you're right after all. Whatever, I guess. Reckon it doesn't really matter in the long run. They keep dying, I'll keep posting them here, clean or dirty.

Both of you have valid points. Those who visit forums and other sites seeking relevant information obviously care about what they are investigating. I suspect that, overall, they constitute a minority of the suicides, particularly a minority of the suicides we see on this site. Most of those appear not to give much, if any, thought to how they will be found after the fact.

I think it strongly depends on the person. Some people will blow their heads off with a gun, other people will bleed out from slit wrists, some people even purposely get drunk and drive so they will die in a horrific car accident. Other's O.D on drugs, hanging, etc. but never heard of a person ever purposely jumping into a wood chipper lol.

The reason why people will ask what the least painful methods are is because despite what is going on in their heads, people biologically do not want to suffer physical pain. The point of suicide is to end the suffering one feels, but some people are deathly afraid of physical pain and hope for a magic poison. All of the ''easy'' ways to die, by very toxic poisons or cyanide, or sleeping pills, or carbon monoxide are really hard to get a hold of.

Poisons are painful, hanging is painful, shooting yourself is violent and possibly painful, also possible one could survive that, drowning is painful, O.D on drugs is painful, slitting is painful, about the only thing that might not be painful is a toxic sedative like nightshade, although some will just paralyze you and cause you to choke on your own fluids which is painful..and good luck getting a hold of things like that... So people really have no choice but to take the messy/painful way out. Some countries have euthanasia programs that do very well, proving that people do care and don't wan't to go out in a horrible manner. But you do always get those types that just don't give a fuck and will make a disgusting death scene. Such is life...
