Firstly, I'll put in a plug for the Netflix documentary "Cartel Land." It is a fascinating biopic about the vigilante groups on both sides of the Mexican border, with a particular emphasis on the self-policed bands of local vigilante 'Autodefensas.' The 'Autodefensas' are essentially heavily armed citizen militias who are dedicated to keeping their towns and cities free of Cartel influence, since they claim the government is corrupt and bought out by the Cartels.

A good idea in theory but, as the documentary shows, the local militias are just as prone to corruption and back-alley justice as the Cartels themselves. Makes for a fascinating watch, especially if you like to follow the violent Cartel-related posts on this website

Anyway, the matter at hand. A civilian militia group was staging armed stop-and-searches on one of the main roadways into town. Allegedly, when they stopped this little red car, all of its occupants opened fire on them with rifles and handguns.

They took cover beside the road and returned fire. After firing a fusillade at the vehicle, several young men got out with guns and ran down the road. This 28 year old woman was the only remaining passenger and she was dead by gunshot.

There's a big dust-up happening on the main social media group for the town where this occurred, with many people claiming that the girl was a civilian passenger and that the weapon between her legs was clearly planted there when the militia realized they'd murdered her. Militia contacts disagreed and informed the newspapers that the woman was definitely firing on them and that the weapon was absolutely not planted. Cries of corruption and planted weapons are increasing in number, mostly by people who believe (correctly?) that the 'militias' bring as much violence as they prevent.

The prevailing theory among the armchair detectives on the local FB group (and there are a lot of them) is that the woman (who has no criminal record or known cartel ties) was just friends with one of the young men in the car and not a player at all. They substantiate this by pointing out, repeatedly, that the poor girl just sat there and pissed her pants when the shooting started, so she couldn't have been an active combatant. She wouldn't have been afraid if she'd actually been shooting

Of course the militia rep on the social media page pointed out that she probably voided her bladder when she died violently, as people often do. Most regular users of this forum know this. But why let that get in the way of rhetoric painting pictures of innocent young women pissing themselves in fear as they're murdered by brutal vigilantes.

Whatever the case, she's dead. At worst, she was a cartel player opening fire on armed militia. At best she made bad choices for friends and was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Either way, I encourage you all to check out that Netflix documentary about the activities and philosophies of vigilante militias in these war-torn border towns.

Hope is pretty much all that many of those people have going for them. Pie in the sky, bye and bye. They hope that their religion is true (the RC's and other faithful among them) since they aren't likely to see much in the way of earthly peace and prosperity.

If the occupants of the little red car "opened" fire on the members of the check point, then is all fair that she was shot dead in the returned fire. IF the allegations are true there would be no sympathy on my end.

Atleast ,her head wasn't exploded into small fragments . I'm sure she would have been pleased by this .

Whether she was an active shooter or just a friend of one of the shooters, it was her ties to "the wrong crowd" that did her in. Although, where the weapon came to rest in relation to where her arms came to rest looks a lil odd to me.

Guess we will never know what really happened and a proper investigation is highly unlikely also.
