I remember that guide on here about the difference in the marks left from a hanging and from a strangulation. It looks like murder because it's not making a "V" shape that leads toward the spot the rope would have been tied above her if she had hanged herself.

Actually, there is some very interesting etymology behind this word and its use. Technically, 'hanged' should only be used when referring to an actual execution by hanging. Suicides are hung, not hanged. Murder is a bit more of a grey area, though strict 'murder' by hanging is so rare that it should almost never be used. But in the context that you were referring to, hanged is probably more correct than hung. 'She hung herself in the basement' is correct usage. As is 'The cattle rustler was hanged at dawn.' |
