When an artery is severed takes a person between 35 and 120 seconds to bleed out fatally through the neck.
Even so, I agree it's a terrible way die. Aside from getting your throat cut in an ER room, there's just nothing you can do!
The only way to stop the bleeding is to heavily compress the wound or apply a tourniquet, but you can't apply a tourniquet to your freaking neck and expect to live
